The ultimate daycare commuter, a brand-new Giant Reign E+ 1 Electric mountain bike, custom fitted with a Thule Chariot lite child seat trailer. This epic ride was the perfect solution to remove the need for a car, daycare runs and fitting in after work mountain bike laps.
Nicole & Jacob are very much a part of the Evo family, with their husband (and dad) Durand, being the eCommerce leader for the business. Nicole works as a Vascular Sonographer at the Nelson Hospital.
The family has recently moved to Nelson, home to some of New Zealand’s best trail networks and cycling infrastructure. So, the decision was made to sell the car and move to bikes as the primary mode of transport. It made good financial sense, it was better for the environment and it seemed like a more enjoyable way to start and end the day. However, they still needed to get their son Jacob to and from day care each day which involved covering a reasonable distance with some hills. The solution, an electric bike that could tow a trailer… Obviously.
So why a Giant Reign E+ electric mountain bike? It may seem a little over the top, but the electric Giant Reign killed two birds with one stone. It provides the grunt to tow a trailer during the commute with out getting a sweat up, but also offered a way to quickly access the mountain bike trails at the end of the day (without toddler in tow).
The Thule Chariot trailer system has an ingenious ball and socket connection which can quickly be decoupled without any tools.

It’s fast. As a mountain bike, it just feels so planted on the descent and it climbs like a dream. I’m climbing hills in half the time and getting more laps per outing. My riding is probably getting better as a result and I now feel faster going down than what I do on my standard pedal bike!
