THE EVO STORY

Evo started way back in 2007 and we’ve been on an epic ride ever since! From humble beginnings in the Waikato, we’ve grown to have showrooms all across our beautiful country, many in key riding destinations. Though as much as we’ve grown we’re still a family owned 100% kiwi company.

Founded on the principal of “There Must be a Better Way” Evo has pushed the boundaries of what our customers can expect from a retailer in the industry. We’re not done yet though we’ll keep pushing and improving to bring you an even better customer Experience.

2007

THIS IS SAM...

He founded Evo in 2007. Our first Evo store opened in the middle of the Global Financial Crisis. An accountant by trade, he wears jandals, stubbies, singlets and plays rugby. Born in Tokoroa and growing up in a little town called Morrinsville (made famous by Jacinda) he’s a solid kiwi bloke. Every kiwi knows a Sam.

THIS IS OUR CREW

There is over 250 of us, and we love bikes! Our crew are passionate about bikes and riding first and foremost, you’ll find them on the trails, hitting the road, at velodromes, bmx tracks and skateparks and commuting. Anywhere you can ride you’ll find one of us. We love sharing our two-wheeled obsession with other riders whether new, elite, young, or old.

THESE ARE OUR CUSTOMERS

Our customers are a weird and wonderful mix of all types and ages.

Parents getting kids onto their first balance bike, Roadies looking for the next bike to slice through the air, shredding teenagers who just want to braaap, e-bike commuters, who want to get to work, fast, safe, and sweat-free. Riders of all types, young, old, new or experienced.

2008-2014

GROWING EVO THE KIWI WAY

The early years were hard work and long hours. Everything was DIY from painting stores to grinding floors. Sam and his girlfriend Alesha sold their house and moved into an apartment above the Hamilton shop - they put everything on the line for Evo. Bikes were often personally delivered to customers by Sam after hours, and big milestones were celebrated with dinner out.

EVO TRADE ESTABLISHED

In 2014 we made it official and established our Evo Trade department on the back of all our DIY efforts. Even our accounts department will pick up a paintbrush! We won’t ask anything of our crew we wouldn’t do ourselves, We lead from the front, we don’t command from the back.

OUR FAMILY COMPANY GREW!

We got lots more family on board to help make Evo better as things got busier!

We consider our crew part of the family too, and over this time we went from 30 to over 100 crew. That’s over 200% more crew!

2017

WE OPENED IN THE BIG SMOKE.

Half expecting to be laughed out of the big city Evo opened in Auckland Central and we were blown away with how we were received. This was a pivotal moment on our journey and we decided to kick things up a gear.

2018-2019

WE REALISED WE NEEDED TO EVOLVE.

We didn't want to be just a bike store with lot's of showrooms. We wanted to become the best bike organisation in the world. Our first step on this journey meant setting our core values. We implemented values that have become the basis for every single decision we make. Our values injected a much-needed culture boost into Evo and set us on the right path.

OUR VALUES INJECTED CULTURE INTO EVO.

OUR SHOWROOMS

Our Showrooms aren’t just retail outlets to us, they’re culture centers, where you can find like-minded people who love to get out on two wheels. We see our showrooms as your gateway to fun, freedom, and years of good times. And we wanted to make Evo the launchpad to send you off on your next adventure or commute. To do that we needed more showrooms!

Our passion, determination and culture have been our crutch during this growth.

We also embraced our local heritage with a new, NZ inspired logo and the introduction of Wade.
