In our third edition of '2021 Kona Releases' we look at the new Electric bike range, a carbon gravel bike and the fanciest Process 134 in the Kona line up for 2021.
In this third and final instalment of our ‘Top ’ articles, we wrap up Kona’s new models for 2021, again focussing on bikes that are new to the range, or receive an entirely new frame for the season.
The veteran of the Kona e-MTB lineup and a top choice whether you’re looking for your first e-bike, or searching for something trail enabled for reaching deeper into the woods. The Remote brings elements and geometry across from the Honzo and powers it all with a Shimano E7000 motor and 504Wh battery. From rail trails to backcountry trail building missions and everything in-between.
The introduction of the Remote 160 in 2020 brought the feeling of a Process to an eBike. With rave reviews from many of mountain biking’s top publications, Kona wanted to take things a step further. The biggest change is the use of 29” wheels, rather than the 27.5” on the regular Remote 160 model. The Remote 160 DL utilizes Shimano’s new EP800 motor with a 504 Wh battery. The 160mm rear wheel travel is matched perfectly by the 160mm RockShox Zeb Select+ Charger RC2.1 Debonair fork. E-MTB-specific SRAM Guide RE brakes with 200mm rotors slow you down when you need and Maxxis Assegai EXO+ TR 3C tyres give you excellent traction over the roughest terrain.
Take the best of the Remote 160, and mix with the best of the Process 134, power it up with a Shimano E7000 motor and 504 Wh battery and you get the all-new for 2021 Remote 130 eMTB. The 140mm Fox 34 fork coupled with the balanced geometry, makes this bike ready to take on everything from spins to the local shops, right up to the most demanding off-road terrain.
Kona’s beloved Coco has gone electric! In this top-tier model, this classic step-through bike offers smooth pedal-assist power with Shimano’s E6100 motor and an easy-to-read display, dependable Deore 10-speed shifting, and durable, puncture-resistant WTB Horizon TCS 650x47c tires. Equipped with aluminium fenders, premium Busch & Müller lights, a kickstand and a stunning Pinot Noir paint job, the Ecoco DL is sure to be one of the hottest townie bikes of the summer!
The Coco is the perfect first step into the E-bike world. Its low-slung step-through frame makes it super easy to get on and off, whether at the start of your ride or while stopping at traffic lights. The semi-integrated battery and Shimano E6100 motor ensure that you’ll make it to the top of that big hill in time to watch every single sunset. Dependable Shimano shifting and disc brakes will keep all the moving parts running smoothly. It comes with fenders, front and rear lights, and a kickstand. The only thing needed, is you!
Commuters have been asking for a beefed-up version of Kona’s Dew-E, and their answer is the creatively named Dew-E DL. An aluminium frame features a Kona Rove Verso Full Carbon Flat Mount Disc fork, while the 10-speed Shimano Deore drivetrain works in perfect harmony with their E6100 motor. Powered by a 504 Wh battery, your long commute can now be much less taxing. Sturdy aluminium fenders and lights keep you dry and seen throughout your ride. Powerful Shimano hydraulic disc brakes and 160mm rotors stop on a dime, even in wet conditions, and puncture-resistant WTB Horizon TCS 650x47c tires keep the road rolling by smoothly whether you’re cruising on the pavement, or a dirt path.
Gravel riding is becoming popular, as are Electric Bikes, put them together and you get the Libre EL, a capable gravel grinder with some added assistance. Based on Konas wildly popular Libre platform, the Libre EL features an aluminium frame and Verso Full Carbon Flat Mount Disc fork. Like its CR DL sibling, it’s running a Shimano GRX 810 11-speed drivetrain and brakes, and a TransX + RAD Internal dropper post activated by Shimano’s GRX lever. Unlike its analog sibling, it gets a power boost from a Shimano E7000 motor and 504 Wh internal battery. Go further, longer, harder!
Earlier we took a look at the Libre and Libre CR bikes, this time we give you a quick run-down of the top-dog of the range, the Libre CR DL. This gorgeous Race Light Carbon frame provides both performance and comfort across varying terrain. Holy-toledo! The creme-de-la-creme of the Process 134 line, the CR Supreme sits at the top of the Process 134 range and features a build to die for! A full AXS build and X01 cranks keep the momentum smooth. Zipp Zero Moto carbon wheels shave weight and add that extra something special. No detail was overlooked—even the WTB Volt saddle features titanium rails and their lightweight fusion base. Did we mention that paint job? The Process 134 CR Supreme is the bike of your dreams.
